The Avero Index is an indicator of year-over-year restaurant industry trends, specifically same-store sales performance. These trends encompass a group of restaurants representing different cuisines, venue types, and average checks, nationally and in the following markets: Atlanta, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Washington DC.
September 2017 Highlights
- The multiple tragic national disasters over the past month (Hurricane Harvey, Irma, and Maria) have extended their destruction to the restaurant industry driving same store sales down 1.4% nationally this September.
- New York City sales almost broke even (-0.2%) with restaurants with average checks under $40 continuing to underperform compared with more expensive restaurants (-3.4%).
- Poor weekday sales (-2.5%) led Las Vegas to decreased sales this September as well (-1.4%).
- This September marks the 12th consecutive month Washington DC same store sales have surpassed last year's monthly sales.
