September 2017 Avero Index

Posted by Isa Gomez | October 03, 2017

The Avero Index tracks year-over-year same-store sales performance of restaurants representing different cuisines, venue types, and average checks, nationally and in several specific markets.

September 2017 Highlights

  • The multiple tragic national disasters over the past month (Hurricane Harvey, Irma, and Maria) have extended their destruction to the restaurant industry driving same store sales down 1.4% nationally this September.
  • New York City sales almost broke even (-0.2%) with restaurants with average checks under $40 continuing to underperform compared with more expensive restaurants (-3.4%).
  • Poor weekday sales (-2.5%) led Las Vegas to decreased sales this September as well (-1.4%).
  • This September marks the 12th consecutive month Washington DC same store sales have surpassed last year's monthly sales.
